Microbiological Services

The microbiology laboratory at NTL undertakes quality tests for industries associated with raw and processed food, drugs, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and water. The lab is well equipped, with state-of-the-art facilities and experienced scientists.

The lab provides the following services-

  • Detection Of Pathogens (Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholera, Pathogenic streptococci, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Legionella, Clostridium, Bacillus, Salmonella, Shigella, etc. )
  • Detection of Spoilage Microbes (Standard Plate Count, Coliforms / Faecal Coliforms, Psychrophilic and Thermophilic, Aerobic and anaerobic spore formers, Anaerobic Bacteria, Sulphite Reducing Bacteria, Sulphur and Iron Bacteria, Yeast and Mould, etc.)
  • Residual Anti-Microbial Substances
Food-producing animals are given antimicrobial drugs for the prevention of disease and for their well-being. The residues of these antimicrobial drugs remain in and on the body of the animals.
Following anti-microbial residues are being tested at ppb levels- Tetracycline, Sulfonamides, Streptomycin, Chloramphenicol, Gentamycin, Neomycin, Nitrofurans etc.
  • Mycotoxins
Mycotoxins are carcinogenic, highly toxic metabolites of fungi like Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium. They are toxic and tested even in trace quantities- Aflatoxins -Aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2, M1, Fumonisin, Deoxynivalenol (Vomitoxin), Ochratoxin A, Zearalenone, T-2 toxin, etc.
  • Bacterial Enterotoxins
  • Sterility Testing
  • Bioburden Estimation
  • Monitoring of Indoor Air
  • Preservative Efficacy
  • Disinfection Efficacy

Microbiology Lab (Food)

In the Microbiological Laboratory, all aspects related to the microbial contamination of food products are covered. Our experienced technical personnel is supported by validated test methods, calibrated analytical equipment, and facilities that operate to ensure accurate and reproducible data. Sample collection plays an extremely important role in the analysis of food, as sample integrity can have a major effect on the analytical results.

Our team of highly trained sample collection technicians follows stringent sampling procedures to ensure that the sample integrity is maintained right from collection till the sample reaches the laboratory for analysis. Strict aseptic techniques are utilized for collection of samples for microbiological analysis. The laboratory follows national and international analytical methods for microbial analysis. Methods include BIS, APHA, USFDA (BAM) AOAC, & USDA, DGHS.
